YOYO 1 is a green fluorescent carbocyanine dimeric dye. It is a cell-impermeant nucleic acid stain that is nonfluorescent in the absence of nucleic acids but exhibits over a thousand-fold fluorescence enhancement upon binding to dsDNA.
